How to rearrange PDF pages
To rearrange the pages of a PDF, open the file in the organizer above. Every page appears as a thumbnail with its page number. Drag a page and drop it where it should go; a bar shows where it will land. The numbers update straight away, and the PDF itself is changed as you go, so downloading only has to save it.
- Choose a PDF or drop it on the organizer. Files up to 50 MB open.
- Click a page to select it. Click it again to clear it, or Shift-click another page to select every page in between.
- Drag a selected page to move the whole selection, or use Move earlier and Move later. The arrow keys do the same.
- Rotate, delete, or extract the selected pages from the bar above the grid. Undo and Redo step through every change.
- Choose Download to save the whole PDF with “-organized” added to its name.
02
Rotate PDF pages
Scanned documents often have a page or two upside down or on its side. Select those pages and choose Rotate left or Rotate right; each click turns them a quarter turn. The page is turned the way a PDF reader expects, by setting its rotation, so its text and images are untouched and the file does not grow.
Rotation is saved in the PDF, so the page opens the right way up in every viewer, prints the right way up, and stays that way if you convert it later. Turning a page four times brings it back to where it started.
03
Delete pages from a PDF
Select the pages you do not need, such as blank pages from a duplex scan or the cover of a long report, and press Delete or choose Delete pages. They disappear from the grid and the following pages move up. If you remove the wrong page, Undo puts it back in its old place.
A PDF needs at least one page, so the organizer will not delete every page. To keep only a few pages, it is often quicker to extract them instead.
04
Extract pages into a new PDF
Select the pages you want to keep and choose Extract selected pages. A new PDF with only those pages downloads, with “-pages” added to the name. The pages come out in the order they have in the document, so arrange them first if the order matters.
Extracting does not change the PDF you have open. You can select another set and extract again, for example to send each chapter of a report to a different person. If you need parts that each stay under a size limit instead, split the PDF by size.
05
Why it runs in your browser
Contracts, statements and ID documents are the kind of files people reorder before sending. The organizer opens them inside your browser tab with MuPDF, a PDF engine compiled to run on the web page itself. No page and no thumbnail is sent to pdfly. The organizer is open source under the AGPL-3.0 license, and the link to its code sits at the bottom of the tool.
Because the work happens on your device, a very large PDF depends on the memory of your computer or phone. Thumbnails are drawn only as they scroll into view, so even long documents open quickly.
06
After organizing
Organizing does not compress the file. If the result is too big for an upload form or an email, use the PDF compressor to bring it under the size you need. To change words on a page, edit the text in a PDF. When a form asks for images rather than a PDF, turn PDF pages into JPG images at a size per image.
07
Limits
The organizer opens one PDF up to 50 MB. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened; remove the password first. Pages from another PDF cannot be added here, so merge the files first. Bookmarks and links that point to a page you deleted no longer lead anywhere. There is no account, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.
