PDF to JPG under a size limit

To convert PDF to JPG under a size limit, drop the PDF and pick the most each image may weigh. pdfly turns every page into one JPG under that size and gives you one ZIP.

Max size per image

How it works

What pdfly does

  1. 01One page, one JPGEach page is drawn at 150 DPI, in page order, and saved as its own JPG.
  2. 02Highest quality that fitsEach image gets the best JPG quality that stays under your size. The resolution is lowered only when quality alone is not enough.
  3. 03No image over the limitIf one page cannot get under your size, pdfly says which page and how small it got. You get no ZIP.

How to convert PDF to JPG under a size limit

To convert a PDF to JPG images under a size limit, drop the PDF on the tool, choose the largest size one image may be, and download the ZIP. pdfly draws each page, saves it as a JPG, and checks the size of that real file. Every image in the ZIP is at or under the size you chose.

  1. Drop one PDF on the tool, or browse for it. It can be up to 100 MB and 100 pages.
  2. Pick a size per image. 200 KB opens selected because many upload forms accept it. Choose Custom for any other number.
  3. Start the conversion. A short line tells you how many images were made and the size limit they meet.
  4. Download one ZIP with one JPG per page.

02

Why convert to a size, not just convert?

Many forms ask for a page of a document as an image, not as a PDF, and they cap that image at a fixed size. A converter that only exports pages gives you files of whatever size they happen to be. A page with a photo on it can easily be a few megabytes, and you are left to find an image compressor and guess a setting for each file.

Here the size is part of the job. pdfly measures each JPG it writes and keeps the best version that fits. You do not have to try settings one by one, and an image over your limit is never handed out.

03

What happens to image quality

Each page is drawn once at 150 DPI, with smooth edges on text and lines. That is sharp on a phone or laptop screen and close to what most forms expect from a scan. pdfly then looks for the highest JPG quality whose file is still under your size, so a page with room to spare stays as clear as it can be.

When even the lowest quality pdfly allows is still too big, the image is made smaller in steps and the search runs again at each step. Small text gets softer at low resolutions, so if a page comes back hard to read, pick a larger size. If one page cannot get under your size at all, you get a message with the page number and the smallest size it reached, and no ZIP.

04

File names and page order

The images are named after your PDF, followed by the page number, such as report-page-01.jpg, report-page-02.jpg, and so on. The numbers are padded with zeros so the files sort in page order in any folder. A one-page PDF still comes as a ZIP, so every conversion downloads the same way.

To convert only some pages, or to fix pages that are upside down first, reorder, rotate, or delete pages, download that PDF, and convert it here. Rotation is kept, so a page you turned upright becomes an upright image.

05

Scanned PDFs and photos of documents

A scanned PDF is already a set of images, one per page, and it converts the same way. pdfly draws the page as it looks, so stamps, signatures, and handwriting all appear in the JPG. Scans are often large, which is exactly where a size limit helps: the image is brought under your number without a separate step.

If the portal wants one PDF rather than images, you do not need to convert at all. Use the PDF compressor instead, or split the PDF by size when it takes several smaller files.

06

Going the other way

After editing or cropping the images, you may need a PDF again. The JPG to PDF tool puts each image on its own page in the order you set and keeps that PDF under a size you choose. You can turn JPG images into a PDF with the same kind of size limit.

07

Limits

One conversion takes one PDF up to 100 MB and 100 pages. Password-protected PDFs are not accepted; remove the password first. The size per image can be anything from 8 KB to 100 MB. The output is always JPG. The upload and the ZIP are deleted within 1 hour, and there is no account to create.

FAQ

Questions

Which size should I pick?

Use the number on the form or portal. Photo and document uploads are often limited to 100 KB or 200 KB per image. If there is no limit, 500 KB or 1 MB keeps small text easy to read.

Why do I get a ZIP?

Every page becomes its own image, so the images come together in one ZIP, even for a one-page PDF. The files are named after your PDF with the page number, in page order.

Can I convert only some pages?

Not in this tool. First reorder, rotate, or delete pages and download a PDF with only the pages you need, then convert that file.

Will text stay readable?

Pages are drawn at 150 DPI, sharp on a screen and fine for most forms. With a very small size, a page full of text may have its resolution lowered to fit, so choose a larger size if the result is hard to read.

How do I turn images back into a PDF?

Use the other direction: turn JPG images into a PDF under a size limit.

What are the limits?

One PDF up to 100 MB and 100 pages. Password-protected PDFs are not accepted.

Can I use a size that is not in the list?

Yes. Choose Custom and type any size from 8 KB to 100 MB.

Do you store my data?

No. pdfly does not store your data. A generated file is deleted within 1 hour.
